Dental sealants are a preventive measure that we use at Calgary dental practice Concept Dentistry. They are plastic coatings that are applied to the chewing surfaces of permanent back teeth. There are grooves on the back teeth that make them vulnerable and much more susceptible to decay, cavities, and plaque buildup than other teeth. By sealing these teeth, it is harder for food and bacteria to be trapped in these grooves.
Before applying a dental sealant, your Calgary dentist will first do a thorough cleaning of the teeth to be sealed. This allows optimal bond between the tooth and the sealant. The liquid dental sealant is then placed on the tooth and will harden by using a special light that will cure the sealant. It is important to make sure the bite feels comfortable to you before you leave the office and then you can chew on the tooth again!
Please consult with your Calgary dental office if you’re looking to have dental sealants used as a preventative measure.
